Lake Thurmond Lodging was created to share something we have treasured for years: the feeling of being in a place where life slows down, neighbors still matter, and the natural beauty around you becomes part of everyday living.
What makes this place special
This is more than a lake destination. It is a community shaped by friendliness, independence, and a shared desire to enjoy life in a more meaningful way. People here look out for one another, value peace and privacy, and still make room for each person to live life in their own way.
To some, this area may seem tucked away. To us, that is part of the gift. Life here feels more grounded, more comfortable, and more connected to the things that matter most. There is a sense of safety, calm, and belonging that is getting harder to find elsewhere.
We love the way this area invites people to breathe. Whether that means mornings on the lake, walks through the woods, time with neighbors, or simply sitting still long enough to notice the wildlife and changing seasons, this lifestyle has a way of restoring people.
How our story began
Karen and I grew up in eastern Pennsylvania and met at Kutztown University in 1983. After college, life brought us to Georgia, where we quickly fell in love with the people, the weather, and the open space. That was the beginning of our love for the South.
In 1990, we bought a lake lot on Lake Thurmond, back when many still called it Clarks Hill Lake. We spent years coming here on weekends, camping, exploring, and building our connection to the area. In 2001, we built our home and made the drive from Atlanta as often as we could, counting the days until we could spend more time here.
That opportunity came in 2013, when Karen accepted a teaching position in Columbia County, Georgia. We made the move to full-time lake living, and it changed our lives. Later, Karen retired from teaching, began working alongside me, and continues to stay deeply involved in the community through her fitness classes at the Recreation Center in Savannah Lakes Village.
Why we share it
Our love for this area naturally led us into real estate and lodging. We wanted the chance to help others discover what we found here years ago: a healthier pace, a strong sense of community, and a lifestyle centered around nature, friendship, and possibility.
These villas are part of that invitation. They give guests a comfortable place to stay while they relax, reconnect, explore the lake region, and experience what living here actually feels like. For some, it is simply a peaceful getaway. For others, it becomes the beginning of something more.
We feel deeply blessed by the life we have built here, and we are grateful for every opportunity to share this special corner of the world with others.
