Hiking Trails

 Hickory Knob State Resort Park offers 3 scenic hiking trails that wind along the shorelines of the lake.

  • Turkey Ridge is near the park entrance and is a 1.7 mile hike through mixed pines and hardwood forests.
  • Lakeview Loop is a 7.2 mile loop trail that offers beautiful views of the lake and follows the Lake Thurmond shoreline.
  • Beaver Run is a 2.5 mile trail beginning at the lodge and winds along the Lake Thurmond shoreline.

 Savannah Valley Railroad Trail The old railroad bed between McCormick and Anderson, SC is being converted into a hiking and biking trail that runs right through Savannah Lakes Village.  The trail is currently over 10 miles long and is accessible from the intersection of Huguenot Parkway and Hwy 7, and again on Highway 7 just past the Antebellum home on the left.  The current trailhead is located on Barksdale Ferry road near the McCormick Country Club, a small parking lot is provided. Another access point is located on Badwell Cemetery Rd. off Huguenot Pkwy. The current trail runs from the McCormick Country Club to Willington, SC.  Of special interest is the trestle crossing over Mill Creek. Maps and history markers are located at every access point.

Golf

We welcome you as our guest to play both 18-hole award-winning golf courses.  Call me to provide you with a Visitor’s passport and to set up a tee time.  We also offer excellent instructors and practice facilities including driving ranges, putting greens, practice bunkers, and pitching greens.  Additionally, we have a third 18-hole course is located nearby at Hickory Knob State Resort Park.  Tee time reservations may be made for Hickory Knob at 866-369-9331

Hickory Knob offers:

Baker Creek State Park (SC)

This park is operated seasonally and is open from March 1 through September 30 each year.  The park offers camping with 50 RV sites and 50 tent sites, 10 miles of mountain bike trails, a 1 mile nature trail, pavilion, 2 boat ramps, a sandy beach for swimming, and two picnic shelters.  It is right on the shores of Lake Thurmond.  For more information go to www.southcarolinaparks.com/bakercreek/introduction.aspx .  Located at 863 Baker Creek Road, McCormick, SC 29835 (864) 443-2457

 

Elijah Clark State Park (GA)

This park is right across the bridge from McCormick County in Lincolnton, GA.  The park offers camping with 175 camping sites, 3.75mile nature trail, mini golf, archery range, 4 boat ramps, and canoe rentals.  It is right on the shores of Lake Thurmond and hosts several large bluegrass festivals each year. Rangers offer many educational and fun programs throughout the year. Hawe Creek Campground (SC) 

This campground contains 34 sites, most of which are on the waterfront. 30 or 50-amp electrical hookups are provided at each site. Other amenities include flush and vault toilets, drinking water, showers, drinking water, a dump station and boat ramp. One of our favorite campgrounds in the area because of the well placed sites separated by woods and private.
