Discover the Beauty of Golf

Golf Flag

There are many reasons to look at our area as your next place to live. For me, it was the community and the outdoor sports on and surrounding beautiful Lake Thurmond that drew my wife & I here. While we’d rather kayak or walk the golf courses after hours, avid golfers move here to play the world-class championship courses with affordable rates!

Whether you play or simply ride along on a photo safari, you can experience a traditional golf adventure at five (5) different courses within 10 miles of the community:

Monticello – One of two Savannah Lakes Village championship courses and home to several national tournaments, “Monti” is challenging and features lots of hilly terrain and plenty of water features. It is also home to “Monti’s”, a great restaurant with a sports bar vibe and an inviting covered patio that is the perfect vantage point to witness our incredible sunsets.

Tara – This Savannah Lakes Village course features rolling hills and fast greens. Home to the River Grille and the newly renovated 19th Hole Pub, the open back patio overlooks the lake and the combined greens of the 9th and 18th holes. An excellent spot to wet your whistle while you watch your fellow golfers finish their game.

Hickory Knob State Park Golf Resort – One of the most beautiful public golf courses in the Southeast is within our neighboring state park. Nestled between the lake shoreline and acres of well-preserved forests, you will find this 18 hole course a challenge at bargain prices. The pictures included here are from a photo safari/ ride along on the back nine of Hickory Knob.  Schedule a tee time and to see more images of this picturesque course.

McCormick Country Club– Only a quarter of a mile away from Monticello, this public 9-hole executive course requires no tee times. Just show up and have fun! Mostly an open course with some water features, the country club is unique in its casual, family-like atmosphere. Great for beginners or a quick brush-up round when you are short on time.

Rocky Branch Golf Course– Also on the Georgia side of the lake in Lincolnton, this 18-hole course is in a large open pasture with some wooded areas. Flatter than most courses in the area, it is described as having a shorter and strategic play.

For the kids: Elijah Clark State Park Putt- Putt – A short drive over the bridge into Georgia you will find the Putt-Putt course at Elijah Clark State Park. This is a great spot to take the grandkids or to practice your putting skills

Plan your visit now for a 2022 Golf Getaway while you explore the idea of living in the lake area. We will be happy to arrange a tee time for you.
